Persian Cat

The Persian is the oldest and most recognisable of the longhaired breeds, brought to Europe from Persia in the 1600s and refined ever since into something close to a small, serene sculpture. They are quiet cats, undemanding and deeply domestic - happiest on a sunlit chair, watching the room with round, untroubled eyes.

Each portrait is an original watercolour: confident, visible brushstrokes on cold-press paper, in the tradition of natural-history illustration rather than smoothed-over digital art. Real paper grain, real pigment variation, the occasional soft bloom where wet colour met wet colour.

That immense coat is a gift to watercolour: layer over soft layer, with the edges allowed to bloom instead of being drawn.
