How are the portraits made?

With AI image generation, in a watercolour style. A person looks over every one before it goes on sale and redoes the ones that come out wrong: a muddled paw, ears that don't match the breed, a coat in the wrong colour.

Can I ask for a breed that is not in the collection?

Yes. New breeds are added most weeks. Write to contact@sableandochre.com and tell us which breed or animal you want.

Can I commission a portrait of my own pet?

Yes. Upload a clear photo on the commission page (you confirm the photo is yours to use) and say whether you want it as in your photo, same pose and setting, or on a plain watercolour backdrop. We make four versions with AI image generation, a person checks them, and we email you a private page where you pick your favourite. Only that one is made at full size, as a download or a poster. We don't resell it, relist it or add it to the collection.

What is the difference between the download and the poster?

The download is a print-ready JPEG, delivered when you check out. At 300 DPI it is large enough to print at A1 (59×84 cm), or 24×36 in for the US edition. You print it yourself, as often as you like, on any paper.

The poster is printed for you on archival matte paper and posted to your door, rolled in a tube and ready to frame. The how it works page puts the two side by side.

Why are there several colours of the same animal?

So you can pick the one closest to your own animal. Each colourway is a separate artwork rather than a recoloured copy, so the pose and the flowers change too. Switch between them on the product page to compare.

How long will my order take?

Downloads arrive at once. Posters are printed to order: our print partners quote up to 10 working days before dispatch, and most orders leave sooner. Delivery comes on top of that: 1–2 working days to Germany, 2–3 to Czechia, 5–8 to the rest of the EU, 5–15 to Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and 2–5 within the United States. Where do you ship, and what does it cost?

The European Union, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and the United States. European orders are printed in Prague and US orders in Philadelphia. Shipping is calculated at checkout from your address. Orders over 500 kr ship free.

What paper are the posters printed on?

Archival matte paper. It is uncoated, so there is no glare, and the paper grain and the uneven pigment of a watercolour stay visible.

Can I return a poster if I change my mind?

Yes. In Europe and the UK you have 14 days from delivery to withdraw from your order without giving a reason, and in the United States you have 30 days; both cover every print in the collection. You post it back at your own cost and we refund what you paid, including standard delivery. The two exceptions are a commission of your own pet and a download you chose to receive straight away. My poster arrived damaged. What now?

Email us within 30 days with your order number, a photo of the damage and a photo of the poster cut through. You don't post it back: returning a damaged print across a border costs more than printing a new one. The replacement goes to print once we have both photos.

Will the colours match what I see on screen?

Closely, not exactly. A screen gives off light and paper reflects it, and no two monitors are set up alike. Expect the print to look a little softer and warmer. A real printing fault is different, and we replace it.

Can I use the artwork commercially?

A download or a poster is for personal use: printing, framing, hanging, giving as a gift. Reselling it, sharing the file or using it commercially is not included. If you have a particular use in mind, ask us.

Can I get a size that is not listed?

Often, yes. The download prints sharply up to A1 (or 24×36 in for the US edition), so any smaller size is yours to print locally. For a printed poster in another size, write to us and we will ask our print partners.

Do you offer framing?

Not at the moment. The posters come in standard A-series and US sizes, so a ready-made frame fits without a custom mount.

What sizes are available?

Europe: A4 (21×30 cm), A3 (30×42 cm), A2 (42×59 cm) and A1 (59×84 cm). United States: 8×10, 11×14, 16×20, 18×24 and 24×36 inches. Landscape portraits come in the same sizes turned on their side. Prices are on the how it works page.
