Norwegian Forest Cat

The Norwegian Forest Cat - the skogkatt - is built for a northern winter: a dense double coat, a plumed tail, tufted ears and a ruff like a lion's. Norse farms kept them for centuries as barn cats and ship cats, and the breed still carries that self-possessed, outdoor calm. Large, unhurried and quietly affectionate, they tend to choose a person rather than the other way round.

Each portrait is an original watercolour: confident, visible brushstrokes on cold-press paper, in the tradition of natural-history illustration rather than smoothed-over digital art. Real paper grain, real pigment variation, the occasional soft bloom where wet colour met wet colour.

That coat is exactly what a wet brush does best - long guard hairs over soft undercoat, edges left to bloom rather than drawn in.
