Maine Coon Cat

The Maine Coon began as a working barn cat in New England, prized for a dense, weatherproofed coat that shrugged off harsh winters and a build that made short work of rodents. Despite being the largest domestic breed, they are famously good-natured - chirping and trilling rather than meowing, and following their people from room to room with the loyalty of a dog that happens to have whiskers.

Each portrait is an original watercolour: confident, visible brushstrokes on cold-press paper, in the tradition of natural-history illustration rather than smoothed-over digital art. Real paper grain, real pigment variation, the occasional soft bloom where wet colour met wet colour.

This portrait keeps the lynx-tipped ears and the ruff at the throat, with the long fur built up in loose, feathered strokes rather than tight lines.
